Snacks Unlimited is part of the Big Thoughts Group which was set up 5 years ago to deliver innovative flexible and high quality solutions and routes to market for a number of brand owner and retail customers.
The Park Royal factory manufactures a range of low fat and reduced fat products working with people like Marks and Spencer, Weight Watchers, Asda Walmart, J Sainsbury, Morrisons Group etc. as well as a number of other brand owners.
Within the last 12 months there became a clear business requirement to upgrade its existing low fat capability – in line with its business objectives of delivering a significantly better quality product more efficiently.
Due to the specific nature of products the factory produces and the requirements of both business and customer, the solution had to be (a) well thought through and (b) capable of delivering a real step change for the factory.
Wright Machinery had already worked with Snacks Unlimited on a number of other projects ranging from factory line upgrades to innovation in pack formats.
By working with the business and the team at Snacks Unlimited Wright Machinery were able to offer a full scale line trial that allowed us to clearly see the step change effect ahead of making a final decision on the proposal.
Independent tests on product produced and seasoned on the new line showed 8 out of 10 people noticed a significant difference on product quality and taste.
Installation is planned for early 2006 and the business is already in the process of finalising a number of additional low fat opportunities that have developed as a result of this planned improvement for the factory.
